One of the best lessons you can teach a child is to teach them about God’s Character. Knowing who He is and who they are in Him and what He likes, and dislikes is of the greatest knowledge that we will know as Christians. By knowing God’s character, we will know when we are hearing from God.

We are made in God’s image and therefore we can also have some of the same attributes although God is the only One who possesses attributes perfectly.

Here are only a few of God’s amazing characteristics:

God is a God of Justice

It is a natural response for us to want to get what rightfully belongs to us or get revenge from a person that has abused or deceived us. We want justice served and the person punished.

God is a God of justice and He will bring justice to every wrong in our life and to everything that has been stolen by the enemy.

By trusting God and allowing Him to have full control over your life, God will do what only He can do. We can rest in His faithfulness that justice will be served directly by God, the Creator of the universe. God’s justice outweighs any revenge that we may serve in our own capacity and power by far.

Teach children that the best way of dealing with injustices in their life is by giving their hurt and pain to God and letting Him bring healing, wholeness and justice.

Romans 12:19

Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

 God is Always Good

God is always good no matter what season we find ourselves in. He is a good God if we are walking through the valley of the shadow of death.

He is a good God if we are singing from the mountaintop. It is who He is, and He never changes.

Teach children that we live in a broken world where trials and tribulations are inevitable. Teach children that facing challenges and disappointments are part of life and help children to understand that God remains good no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in.

Understanding this truth about God’s character helps God’s people to know that God has a plan and that we can have complete peace and reassurance in the promise that God will work everything out for our good and for His glory.

Psalm 34.8

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.

God is Love

God is love and He shows us His love each day. God’s love is perfect, unlimited and unconditional. He forgives us of all our shortcomings and is slow to anger. God overflows with patience and He has new grace for us each day. God’s love is everlasting.

Jesus gives us a new commandment in John 13:34 saying: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.

Teaching children to love all people regardless of their differences and to be kind to all living creatures is one of the most essential characteristics you can teach a child. By going out into the world and showing love to people, we are showing the world that we are Jesus Christ’s disciples.

1 Corinthians 16:14

“Let all that you do be done in love.”

 God is Holy

God is Holy and righteous. He is deserving of all our praise and worship. There is none like Him, no one will ever compare to our Holy God.

Teach children about God’s Holiness and that we are called to live holy lives by living in peace, loving people, being disciplined, having humility and being tolerant towards others.

1 Samuel 2:2

There is no one holy like the Lord, indeed, there is no one besides You, nor is there any rock like our God.

God’s Holiness and Light swallows up all evil and darkness in the world we live in. We have nothing to fear as children of God.

By knowing God’s character and wanting to walk more intimately with Him we will be blessed with a deep-rooted relationship that brings restoration, healing, peace and complete satisfaction in our life. Only God can provide this.
